Roosevelt High School
Roosevelt High School was completely renovated in 2006. Designed by Bassetti Architects, the renovation included classrooms, commons, gymnasiums, music rehearsal areas and a 700 seat theatre, shown above. Michael R. Yantis Associates served as the project acousticians.
Theatres with balconies are generally taller than those without. The taller room reduces the strength of overhead reflections, allowing reflections from sidewalls to be emphasized. As can be seen in the picture, there are a number of reflecting surfaces (overhead reflectors, horizontal ledges, lighting platforms) to produce multiple reflections from different angles, to support and enhance musical performances.
