Icicle Creek Center for the Arts – Canyon Wren Recital Hall
Michael R. Yantis Associates worked with Jones and Jones Architects in Seattle to design the first phase of the Icicle Creek Center for the Arts. The project included the Canyon Wren Recital Hall (pictured) as well as “Practice Huts”: stand-alone practice rooms for music faculty on sabbatical at the facility.
The recital hall seats 100 and has very little resident acoustic absorption, allowing the music from small musical ensembles to fill the room. One entire wall is a custom wood diffuser designed in close collaboration with Jones and Jones. There are no parallel walls, and the musicians perform in front of a large glass wall.
During the inaugural concert, at dusk, a doe and fawn wandered in the meadow in front of the glass wall, as if on cue.
