Wenatchee Valley College Music and Arts Building

While at Sparling, I was the Principal in Charge of the acoustic design of the Wenatchee Valley College Music and Arts Building, designed by Integrus and commissioned in 2012. The project included a music rehearsal room, practice rooms, recording studio and the Grove Recital Hall that seats 150.

The acoustic design of the recital hall includes several elements that augment musical acoustics: an exterior wall that diffuses sound, a shallow seat rake that exposes more of the walls to retain and enhance the sound in the room, and overhead reflectors that expose the sound to the entire volume of the room while reducing the strength of overhead reflections. The diffusion on the exterior wall is produce by a combination of curved reflectors and glass troughs.
